Vietnam Veterans of Maryland (VVOFMD) is the fund raising section of the ''The Trust for Maryland Vietnam Veterans.'' We would like to thank everyone for their support and donations to the VVOFMD. With your contributions we are looking forward to assisting more veterans, their families, widows and orphans and other veteran related programs providing services to Maryland Veterans. Your donations are tax deductible under Section 501(c)(3), of the Internal Revenue Service Code governing non-profit organizations. The Trust and VVOFMD is registered with the Maryland Secretary of State. GREETINGS!Some of you may have received a similar salutation from your Uncle Sam during the years of the military draft. Well, this introduction letter is nothing with so great an impact on you, but this "greeting" IS serious for those millions who answered Uncle Sam's summons and for the other millions of men and women who have volunteered to defend our country in military service. Our veterans deserve and need the recognition of the nation and their fellow citizens. Who are we? We are your fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters, friends and neighbors. We have served the United States and our fellow Americans, sometimes at great cost, but always proudly. A group of us who have been involved in the military and in veterans affairs over the years have formed the Trust for Maryland Vietnam Veterans. Our purpose is spelled out in detail in our Mission Statement, which is attached. Briefly, we have formed to promote the well-being of veterans and the greater community in which they reside, especially those who are at greatest need: the disabled, the needy, and the marginalized. We seek to eliminate discrimination suffered by Vietnam Veterans, and to continue to promote their full integration into the community. We do not limit our activities to Vietnam Veterans, but reach out to other veterans organizations and to the general public with patriotic and educational activities intended to increase public understanding of all veterans. Community sponsorship and participation in veterans recognition
ceremonies, such as Memorial Day services and parades, and in support
of programs for disabled and needy veterans, validates each veteran
in his or her service to our country and shows that we, as a nation,
value that service. The Department of Veterans Affairs and Maryland
state agencies can't do everything that is necessary. We all need to
pitch in. That is why we seek your support for local veterans programs
as provided by the Trust and other local veterans organizations. Although
the thought must change to reflect the modern service of women in the
military, perhaps Abraham Lincoln said it best: "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan"..... Abraham LincolnWe welcome your support and participation with us in any way or manner in which you may choose to provide them. Of course, all contributions to the Trust are fully tax deductible. Please feel free to contact us at 301-845-4865, or FAX us at 301-845-0432 if you have any questions or comments. For your further convenience, Adolph Gardner, our Trust President, can be reached for e-mail exchange at the following address: AdolphGard@aol.com.
